Marisol
The public tour offers inspiring insights into the Marisol exhibition. Experienced art educators explain selected artworks and their historical background.
In her works, Marisol addresses central themes of her time that are still relevant today: the role(s) of women, social inequality, consumer behaviour, power and fame. With humour and impressive images, the artist combines social criticism and artistic expressiveness.
Marisol (1930–2016) was born Maria Sol Escobar in France. She lived in Venezuela and the USA. In the 1960s, she became famous overnight in New York with her colourfully painted wooden figures. Despite her independent and innovative work, Marisol was long forgotten. The Kunsthaus Zürich is showing her work for the first time in a major retrospective in Europe.
The guided tour is held in English.
