The ideal introduction to the exhibition
Guided Tour

Want to learn more about artists, their works and the historical background? Our public guided tour is the perfect introduction to the exhibition «The Weight of Being. Wilhelm Lehmbruck - The Final Years. In dialogue with Yves Netzhammer».

In this exhibition, two very different but thematically related artists come together: Wilhelm Lehmbruck (1881–1919), one of the most important sculptors of his time, and the internationally renowned Swiss artist Swiss artist Yves Netzhammer (*1970).

At the center is a previously little-explored chapter in the work of the important sculptor: his final creative phases in Berlin (1914–1916) and Zurich (1916–1919). Lehmbruck’s impressive and moving works reflect existential questions of grief, vulnerability, and the longing for transcendence. In dialogue with these stands Yves Netzhammer with contemporary installations and digital images. His works expand Lehmbruck’s themes with current perspectives on the body, space, and human perception in an increasingly complex world. This is the first time a contemporary artist has staged Lehmbruck’s works and served as scenographer for the Zurich presentation.

This exhibition connects past and present - an impressive dialogue about what it means to be human.

The guided tour is held in English.
