The original Kunsthaus was built on Heimplatz in 1910. Since then it has been expanded multiple times: first by Kunsthaus architect Karl Moser in 1925, then in 1958 with the large exhibition gallery, which can be divided up as required, auditiorium and restaurant planned by the Pfister brothers followed in 1976 by Erwin Müller’s annexe.
David Chipperfield’s design for a new building flooded with light lends ascetically elegant form to the Zürcher Kunstgesellschaft’s idea of a museum for the 21st century which is now the largest art museum of Switzerland.
Find out more about the architecture of the Kunsthaus and book your private guided tour. We are offering two different architectural guided tours.
